Mr Marmelade & The Lover
About the plays
A double-feature of the Red Brick Company with two dark comedies about role-playing, alternative worlds and love triangles by young American playwright Noah Haidle and the British Nobel laureate Harold Pinter.
Mr Marmalade
In Noah Haidle’s Mr Marmalade the four-year-old Lucy has created an imaginary world which is centered around her imaginary friend Mr Marmalade: businessman, rich, charming, but also violent and a drug addict. When the five-year old Larry enters the scene, he and Mr Marmalade compete for Lucy’s attention and love – a struggle that will end in a drastic resolution.
The Lover
Harold Pinter’s The Lover features Sarah and Richard, a young married couple who seem to lead a happy life – but only because they both entertain extramarital relationships in the afternoons. Initially, both find this arrangement very pleasing, but at some point they begin to question the foundation of their relationship – and so does Sarah’s lover...
