The Canterville Ghost

Picture

The Red Bricks were back with their very own adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s magical short story “The Canterville Ghost“!

It is 1961. The Cold War between the United States and the USSR has reached new and dangerous levels of confrontation, with the Cuban Missile Crisis hovering over John F. Kennedy’s first year in office as president.
In a provincial part of England, Lord Canterville has problems of an entirely different nature. His castle is haunted by the family ghost, his wife refuses to stay at the family estate any longer and he desperately tries to sell it. By a streak of good fortune, Professor Hiram B. Otis, an American scientist, newly appointed to the local university, buys the castle and brings his family to Canterville Hall.
When his teenage daughter Virginia falls in love with Billy, their new neighbour, the professor is less than pleased by the prospect of a son-in-law who is a musician and a revolutionary. And when the Canterville ghost begins to interfere with the family quarrels, chaos erupts.
Packed with farcical elements as well as sophisticated verbal jokes and supported by the groovy beats of our jazz trio, The Canterville Ghost breathes the dust off  Oscar Wilde’s classic and continues our tradition of  clever comedy with musical elements.
